Did
you know that….
SMELLY RESTROOMS are often caused by floor drains that dry
out. All drains to a sewer system have a "P" shaped
trap which is usually filled with water. The trap provides
a seal to keep out sewer gas. When the water evaporates, the
seal is eliminated, allowing sewer gas (and smell) into your
restroom.
The solution is easy:
Pour water into the drain.

MOLDS are found in virtually every environment and can be
detected, both indoors and outdoors, year round. Mold growth
is encouraged by warm and humid conditions. Outdoors they
can be found in shady, damp areas or places where leaves or
other vegetation is decomposing. Indoors they can be found
where humidity levels are high, such as basements or showers.
Mold growth can be removed from hard surfaces with commercial
products, soap and water, or a bleach and water solution of
1 cup of bleach in 1 gallon of water.
Specific Recommendations:
Keep the humidity level in the house between 40% and 60%.
Use an air conditioner or a dehumidifier during humid months.
Be sure the home has adequate ventilation, including exhaust
fans.
Add mold inhibitors to paints before application.
Clean bathrooms with mold killing products.
Do not carpet bathrooms and basements.
Remove or replace previously soaked carpets and upholstery.
What areas have high mold exposures?
Antique shops , Greenhouses, Saunas, Farms, Mills, Construction
areas, Flower shops, Summer cottages, Basements, Showers.

Did you know that…
DRAIN FLIES can live year round in the restroom? Have you
ever seen those little slow moving flies bumping around in
the restroom and wonder where they came from?
Drain flies breed in polluted shallow water or the scum that
often collects around drains. They love drains that are full
of stagnant water.
The remedy is to simply pour water routinely down all drains,
especially floor drains in commercial buildings. Hot water
helps to kill the larvae. A bleach and water solution can
be used too but be careful. Some drain cleaners and bleach
don’t mix. It’s a toxic combination.
Make sure your cleaning/janitorial contractor flushes your
drains regularly.

HBV (hepatitus B) can survive outside the body at least 7
days and still be capable of causing infection.
What do you use to remove
HBV from environmental surfaces?
You should clean up any blood spills - including dried blood,
which can still be infectious - using 1:10 dilution of one
part household bleach to 10 parts of water for disinfecting
the area. Use gloves and eye protection when cleaning up any
blood spills .
